Hello, my fellow bookworms!! I am having a very eclectic month of reading where I’ve currently got five books on the go I’m flitting between. Attention span? What is that! Clearly I have none. But I’m having fun, so it’s alright.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is:

 Books I Read Because Someone Recommended Them to Me

So today we’re talking about books we read because someone recommended them to us! I am terrible with this. I feel eternally guilty that I have so many books on my TBR already, I very rarely get a book upon a recommendation.

However, when I was in high school this is something I did often (before I truly became book mad). So these books are almost exclusively from that golden era when me and a group of friends swapped books like mad. Ironically, most of them ended up being some of my favourite reads ever.

1. It Ends with Us & Hopeless
by Colleen Hoover

This is one author I am eternally grateful to having been introduced to. One particular friend of mine got me onto both of these books and I loved them enormously. I have read a few more of Hoover’s books (no *heaps* because I read contemporaries sparingly) but in 2021 I’m planning on setting myself a goal to read ALL of Hoover’s books. Yup.

2. The Fault in Our Stars
by John Green

I feel strangely old thinking about when this first came out, before it was famous, and friends being like oh you should read this! Obviously I’m really glad that I actually read this when it was suggested to me because this book is just incredible.

3. Splintered
by A. G. Howard

One of my favourite authors that was introduced to me by a friend!! When I was handed Splintered I wasn’t sure what to think of it but when I started reading it, I quickly fell in love. I’ve read all bar two of Howard’s book published to date since. I always am quick to get my hands on her latest story because she writes such amazing tales!

4. The Iron King
by  Julie Kagawa

This book is straight out of that golden age I was talking about. It always make me happy to think back on it. The Iron King is such a great story about fae and has a great love triangle in it. It’s a really fun and magical story and I can’t imagine my life without having read it!

5. Wings
by Aprilynne Pike

This book was brilliant. As a fifteen-year-old I lapped this up. The romance, the magic, the adventure – it has so many great elements going for it. I haven’t had much luck with Pike’s other books but I do love this series.

6. Grave Mercy
by Robin LaFevers

Imagine not having read a LaFevers book!!! *eyes off all of you who have not* This series is EVERYTHING. And the fact that we now have a spin-off series too?!!? Oh boy. The sheer amount of fangirling that went on amongst my friend ground when we were handing this book around was crazy.

7. Otherkin
by Nina Berry

To this day, I have never seen anyone else talking about this book. It was a really fun shape-shifting trilogy that I lapped up. My friends and I would squeal about it at school. This is definitely a must read for any fifteen year olds out there in the crowd tonight.

8. Ranger’s Apprentice
by John Flanagan

I will always be grateful for the one friend in high school who forced me to read this. She was like: Kirstie, you have to, this is so good, you must. I reluctantly picked it up and this has been one of my favourite series ever since.

9. Graceling
by Kristin Cashore

Another great book from my golden era! Such a great setting and some awesome characters in this one! Po will forever be one of my greatest fictional crushes.

10. Throne of Glass
by Sarah J .Maas

Again, I feel really old that this was a recommendation from a friend going oh hey this book is good! Even though it’s a staple now! So strange! But after a bit of arm-twisting my friends got me to read this and the rest is history.
