Don’t you just hate those moments in books that really annoy you?! I thought it would be fun today to do the NOPE book tag to revisit some of the super annoying books that I’ve read in my lifetime. I can’t wait so let’s just dive straight in!
I had a little search to find this tag and found it over a The Caffeinated Bookworm Life.
NOPE! Ending: a book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy
I will never forget how annoyed I was at the ending of this series. I loved the Delirium trilogy and powered through it like there was no tomorrow when I read it. But Oliver loves to write books where the ending is left somewhat open and this was the most inconclusive ending EVER. SO ANNOYED.
NOPE! Protagonist: a main character you dislike and drives you crazy
I was alright with Lara Jean until the last book and then she just drove me mad. I found her to be really annoying and ridiculous naive towards the end and really struggled to finish this series.
NOPE! Pairing: a “ship” you don’t support
Honestly, there are so many things about this book I did not like but one of the things that really irked me was the painful romances. There are two love interests in this story and both are so pushed, cliched and false. I wouldn’t ship either of them.
NOPE! Plot twist: a twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like
As much as I enjoyed reading this, the twist in this book was lacklustre and no where near as satisfying as it should have been. I spent the whole book waiting for this big reveal and literally, the main character sleeps through the most important part. GAH.
NOPE! Genre: a genre you will never read
I would never read science books. Like non-fiction science. That is quite literally the most boring thing I could think of to read. You couldn’t force me to do it.
NOPE! Book format: book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition
My least favourite format of a book is a trade paperback. But USUALLY, these are one of the last formats for a book to be published in. My second choice would be an eBook. I would definitely wait for most books to be published physically and avoid the eBook, I really don’t like reading them!
NOPE! Trope: a trope that makes you go NOPE
I don’t know if this counts as a trope but this is something that bothers me. When a woman is “tough” or doing something that could be considered masculine, she has to be a tomboy or oblivious of anything sexual. Scarlet was terrible for this, the female protagonist is borderline objectified in a sexual way by the male characters with an over-emphasis on her boyishness to justify her being a thief. Big nope.
NOPE! Recommendation: a book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read
I mean, I bought it. But I won’t read it. I think I’m just a bit beyond the Twilight world at this point and there’s no way I could bring myself to come back to this story. Especially the gender swapped version of it.
NOPE! Cliche: a cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes
Hardcore instalove. Kindred is the worst instalove I’ve ever read. It was like omg a guy is creepily watching me out a window I’M IN LOVE. That is not okay and mega eyeroll worthy. I don’t mind an instent spark of interest, but this is ridiculous.
NOPE! Love interest: the love interest that’s not worthy of being one
I can’t really think of a better answer for this question but I really despise the character developments and obsession that Tamlin develops for Feyre. That is truly sickening to read!
NOPE! Book: a book that shouldn’t have existed
I feel like this is a little bit of a harsh question but if I had to pick anything, it would probably be this book. The main character in this is an unctuous middle-aged man and he is just gross. I put down this book early on because of him.
NOPE! Villain: a villain you would hate to cross
The mastermind behind this story. Good god. No thank you. That would be my absolute worst nightmare. YIKES.
NOPE! Death: a character death that still haunts you
I don’t think I need to say anything more.
NOPE! Author: an author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit
I read Bridget Jones’s Diary earlier this year and HATED it. There was next to nothing I ended up enjoy about this book which really surprised me because I love the movie so much. But yeahhhh don’t think I’ll ever read one of Fielding’s books again because of it.
I’m not going to tag anyone in particular today so go for your life if you want to try this!
Found this really interesting to read! I’m really not a fan of insta love either! I also agree with you about science books – I don’t really find non fiction interesting to read! Great post

This was so interesting to read! I agree with you about Tamlin, the deaths in HP, and the romance in The Storm Crow books. I preferred the romance in the 1st book but felt the romance in the 2nd was forced and didn’t make much sense.

Omg I haven’t even attempted the second Storm Crow book so if you think it’s even worst then lordy lordy I ain’t touching it with a ten foot pole XD

I enjoyed it but I just felt like the romance was unnecessary.

Haha this is such a fun tag! And you’re not alone–I’m still annoyed at Requiem, to the point where I treat Delirium as a standalone and I think it works better that way. I loved Delirium, but I wasn’t particularly fond of Pandemonium and Requiem felt POINTLESS.

OMG SO GLAD IT’S NOT JUST ME. Requiem will haunt me forever I’m sure XD ahahah yes it so could be a standalone! #ForeverSalty
