I hope you’re all having a fabulous week! It has rained for the first time in the LONGEST of times here in Perth, which is always something to be excited about. And! This week I’ve started back at uni for my Masters and oh boy is everything exciting! What a week to be alive.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is:
Characters I’d Follow on Social Media
But I didn’t like that topic so I made my own. Of course. Today I’ve decided to look at something a little different but still on the same note: we’re going to explore the top ten books I can think of that have had SO MUCH HYPE on Instagram. Tell me I’m not right.
As a quiet plug: if you don’t get enough books in your life, be sure to check out my own Instagram page filled with beautiful pictures of exciting books!
1. Red, White & Royal Blue
by Casey McQuiston
One of the books that immediately jumps to mind is this one. When this came out we were all over it – to the point that I feel ashamed to admit I haven’t even bought myself a copy of this, let alone read it!
2. Aurora Rising
by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
It was honestly difficult to toss-up which of the first two books on this list deserves first place. Aurora Rising really took Instagram by storm but I’m putting it at second because a lot of that hype was riding on the fact that Kaufman & Kristoff already have a massive fanbase. But nonetheless, we saw nothing but this cover for what felt like a solid month.
3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
by J K Rowling
Harry Potter always takes Instagram by storm. We love all the covers, especially the beautifully illustrated editions. But the photos I love the most that are always plentiful are the photos of merchandise – whether it’s candles, socks or wands.
4. Caraval
by Stephanie Garber
This series was insanely popular on Instagram at the time of the third book’s release. I couldn’t even scroll two posts without finding that someone else had also taken a picture, often of all three books together. Instagram has done a wonderful job for making me feel like I’m missing out on this one.
5. The Priory of the Orange Tree
by Samantha Shannon
This book took the book world by storm. I’ve never seen so many people actually read such a behemoth of a book?! It was wild! So rarely does this happen? I think the pleasing thickness of this book helped its Instagram fame as bookstagrammers showed off their achievement of reading this book by highlighting its chunkiness. Also, there is a dragon on the cover. Can’t go wrong with that.
6. Cinder
by Marissa Meyer
I don’t know what it is about Cinder, but it always seems to crop up on Instagram. The whole series, in its hardback form, is incredibly pleasing to see stacked. So please, if you own the complete hardback collection of this series I would love to see more pictures on them all.
7. Spin the Dawn
by Elizabeth Lim
I mean, how could this not win the heart of us bookstagrammers? It’s beautiful!! There was a good publicity campaign behind this one, it seemed, so heappppps of people were sharing photographs of this around its release date! And I’m nowhere near sick of seeing it yet. I need to get myself a copy of this just to look at.
8. The Raven Dove
by Kaitlyn Davis
This doesn’t actually come out for a few more weeks yet but the promotional game on this book is on point. Ever since the stunning cover reveal, this book has been peppering my feed on Instagram. And it’s totally working! It’s so beautiful that every time I see it, my resolve to not buy it lessens.
9. The Final Empire
by Brandon Sanderson
Now, I see a lot of all of Sanderson’s books on Instagram, so this certainly isn’t just limited to The Final Empire. His books were practically made for photographing with their blissful consistency of cover design and gloriously thick sizes.
10. Scythe
by Neal Shusterman
I’ll admit, this pick is more for me than anything. I can’t quite decide if this series does actually come up super often but it’s one of my favourites to see pictures of. I love this series and I find the aesthetic of all three books to be marvellous. Please, all please me by taking even more photos of these gorgeous covers.
That’s a wrap!
What books have you seen a lot of on Instagram?
Love your take on this topic!! Photos with Harry Potter are always some of my favorites!

Great twist on this week’s topic! Yes, Red, White & Royal Blue has been EVERYWHERE, which is one of the main reasons I still haven’t picked it up – I’m always slightly intimidated by hype. I do love so many of the shots I see for The Lunar Chronicles on Instagram. 😀

Thanks!! I know right? People went potty for it when it came out. But I 100% get you, I’m nervous to read it too because the hype is so real for that book.

Yes all of these are all over my instagram! Although I haven’t seen the raven and the dove too much, but I guess that is because it is not released yet!

Me too!!! I feel so behind the times not having read it. I’m quite sure everyone else in the world read it the DAY it came out – it certainly felt like it!

I like your twist on this prompt! I’ve definitely seen Aurora Rising everywhere on Instagram, but to be fair, that cover is absolutely GORGEOUS. Can you blame them? Plus, I’m still not over their Illuminae series (which is another I see all over the place, and for good reason). I also see The Arc of a Scythe series a lot still, so you’re not alone with that. Although, it also could be because I love the series, too, so maybe we’re both biased. xD
Here’s my TTT post.

Thanks!! I can’t get enough of all the pictures of Aurora Rising! I was sooo close to including Illuminae on this post (but I guilted myself out of it for doubling up on authors haha) because dang, that book was the ONLY thing on Instagram when it came out, I’m sure.
I’m pretty sure I contribute heavily to the Shusterman spam XD I just love those books so much and can’t stop taking pictures of them.

Well worth it, though, right?! I’m still excited every time I see it. xD
Whaaaat? No such thing as Shusterman spam. 😉 Just awesomeness lol.
