【 THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE 】
book #2 in the Thursday Murder Club series
Genre: Mystery (cosy)
Audience: Adult
Author: Richard Osman
Published: September 2021
Publisher: Penguin
Pages: 422 (paperback)
A fabulous follow up to The Thursday Murder Club! I once again listened to the audio version narrated by Lesley Manville, and I can’t recommend it enough. The narration is fantastic and the plot is just as good as the first time around.
I really enjoyed how Osman didn’t just write another, separate story featuring the same characters, but that the events of this book are linked in some ways to the first. There is a sense of continuity that makes the whole thing more enjoyable because you can justify a reason for there being more trouble for the quartet to investigate.
Each character is so enjoyable in their own way, and I loved seeing how they changed and grew throughout the story. Osman does such a fantastic job of taking an elderly cast and giving them such a wonderful amount of life and room to grow, age be damned.
The drama of this one was on another level compared to the first, as well. It feels like this series has really found its stride, and they’re more than willing to roll up their sleeves and get elbow-deep in trouble.
If you enjoyed book one, then definitely continue the series, because there is so much fun to be had with these books. I found this almost impossible to put down, and it’s always such a delight when it’s a Joyce chapter, because I never fail to laugh as she’s writing her diary entries.

It’s the following Thursday.
Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.
As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?
But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?
