Books That Should Be Netflix Shows | Top Ten Tuesday

Ach, WordPress has finally forced me to swap to this new strange editor. If you don’t use WordPress you’ll likely be like what the heck are you on about. But if you do – gosh I don’t like it. It makes it very hard to use my normal templates!! Ah well. Isn’t change fun.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is:

Books That Should be Netflix Shows

There are so many books I think we would all love to see made into shows! But I’d be so nervous that they wouldn’t be adapted in the best way. I do always think it’s surprising how few books are made into TV series or movies given how many books there are out there! But here are a few I think would be great!

1. A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
by C A Fletcher

This is a dystopian novel about a boy and his dog in the future where the world’s population has dropped to something seriously low like 7,000 people. It’s a fascinating story that is one of the best dystopian novels I ever read. This would make a brilliant TV show.

2. Q
by Christina Dalcher

This is another dystopian novel that I think would make a really gripping, edge-of-your-seat TV show. Dystopians are always a good choice – Netflix needs to get onto this! This story looks at a futuristic America where through the education system, the government is trying to slowly get rid of “undesirables”.

3. Nil
by Lynne Matson

I think we can just assume at this point that dystopian novels are going to dominate this list. But I think if this was turned into a TV show it would be so popular! This is all about an island that doesn’t exist on the map/you can’t get to unless this supernatural force takes you there. It’s only teenagers who ever end up on this island, Nil, and there have one year to work out how to escape before they simply drop dead.

4. Scythe
by Neal Shusterman

I’m hesitant to put this one forward because I’m not sure how well it would actually work. But let’s put it this way, if someone did make a TV show (or even a movie?) out of this I would absolutely watch it. I’d be very curious to see what some creatives mind could do with this!

5. The Ruin of Kings
by Jenn Lyons

Hands down, this could be turned into a TV series even more epic than Game of Thrones. This series has so much to offer and would be rich in atmosphere, diversity and amazing world-building. This is a relatively new series so I’m still hoping it might be adapted one day!

6. The Ventriloquists
by E R Ramzipoor

I feel like this historical fiction novel would make a fantastic movie. This is the story of an underground rebellion group that really risked it all to work against the Nazis. It’s an incredible story of bravery and would be a great movie to settle into on a rainy night.

7. Jane Steele
by Lyndsay Faye

Again, I think this historical fiction/retelling of Jane Eyre would make a good movie. It would be a really fun way to revisit a classic and has some really strong characters as well as a splash of diversity thrown in. I’d be curious how well a film would turn out.

8. Stalking Jack the Ripper
by Kerri Maniscalco

Obviously we need a TV series about this awesome thriller of a historical fiction novel. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Netflix announced it soon – this series has been snowballing into masses of popularity lately and has a strong female lead going against the grain of her time! Plus it’s a bit spooky and Netflix seems to love a good spook.

9. Verity
by Colleen Hoover

Speaking of spooky, this could absolutely be turned into a horror/thriller movie. I wouldn’t watch it if it was. I have zero tolerance for watching scary stuff but this was a seriously awesome read that I’m sure many people would thoroughly enjoy a movie adaptation of.

10. Falling Kingdoms
by Morgan Rhodes

I really think this deserves a TV show! The scope of the setting/story for Falling Kingdoms is really fun and feels unique for ways I can’t quite pin down. But I’d love a multi-season adaptation of this because I would binge the heck out of it.

That’s a wrap!

What book do you think should be a Netflix show?

Happy reading!
