Quotables || Top Ten Tuesday

Howdy friends! Welcome back to a top ten Tuesday. As I went to write this post I noticed how yet again I’ve barely done anything but TTT each week *gasp*, well thank goodness for TTT or you’d all be in a Kirstie-less blogging hole. Whew.

As a minor side-step and precursor to this post I will just note that a few things have happened recently which meant that whilst my blog productivity should have sky-rocketed, it hasn’t changed. Firstly, I’ve decided to put a hold on Booktube for a while because it was hugely detracting from my blogging time. But secondly and thirdly, if you saw my previous post you’ll know that my beloved cat, Smartie, passed away this weekend just gone – and – my grandmother has also passed away since.

So excuse the depressing drop of info there but yes indeed I have been rather too busy with all *kerfuffly hand gestures* that to focus on blogging. I’ll also be in Ireland for the next three weeks (my grandmother’s funeral be there) so IT’S CRAZY RIGHT NOW. But hey, maybe I’ll take some cool photos in Ireland for you. Swings and roudabouts right?

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!

Today’s prompt:

Favorite Book Quotes

Now, I find quotes terribly, terribly, terribly boring. I can’t say I’ve ever really read posts that share them. I like quotes in their books or when I’m on Goodreads going hardy-har-har that’s a good quote. But just sharing them in a list is so boring.

So instead, I’m going to share with you some of my favourite quotes from Goodreads and discuss which item of merchandise I think it would be best suited for. Ain’t that what we bookworms are all about?

1. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

A shirt, this one has to be a shirt. I’d have the first half of this quote on the front and the second half on the back. In different fonts. The second half has to be a super cool squiggly font.

2. “History does not always repeat itself. Sometimes it just yells, ‘Can’t you remember anything I told you?’ and lets fly with a club.”
John W. Campbell Jr

Oh boy I love this quote. I find it to be an accurate summation of life. I would want this as a nice big poster in my bedroom. That way, every time I’m in bed I could just look at it, laugh, shake my head and carry right on.

3. “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”
Charles M. Schulz

Shirt? Jumper? I think this should be something I’m wearing. For some reason I quite fancy having this quote on a beanie, just casually wrapping around my head – although it’s probably too long for a beanie. In which case, maybe I’d have it on a platter. Chocolate is always the answer, regardless.

4. “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.”
Katherine Hepburn

This is mug-worthy. I’d get a nice tall travel mug and slap it on there. Just so that when people see me eating my chocolate bar they’d know I’m obviously rebellious and breaking some kind of rule whilst doing so and casually sipping my tea. Yes I take tea in a travel mug, thank you very much.

5. “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”
Benjamin Franklin

*dabs at eyes* Isn’t this just some beautiful motivation right here? A small poster for this one. Near my bookshelf – maybe in view from my desk. That way I can be writing my book and look up, read it and be like ‘Heck yeah, Franklin!’ and smash out some more words.

6. “It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.”
Herman Melville

For some reason, a shower curtain calls to me. I could have a shower curtain decked out with this awesome quote so I can feel cleansed both body and soul as I step out of my shower as the brand new me.

7. “You know, one of the tragedies of real life is that there is no background music.”
Annie Proulx

I feel like this should be a laptop decal. Just chilling there ready for any wandering eyes to read and the owner of those eyes to nod a little in agreement. Who wouldn’t love some background music? Do you ever walk through shopping centres or stores and a song comes on and you’re like THIS IS MY JAM and then adopt it as your background music for the next three minutes. I do this all the time – *enthusiastically grabs groceries to The Final Countdown*.

8. “Charm is the ability to make someone else think that both of you are pretty wonderful.”
~ Kathleen Winsor

A phone case. This would certainly be nice as a simple design on a phone case. Yup. Easy.

9. “Two is company, four is a party, three is a crowd. One is a wanderer.”
James Thurber

I’d love this on a mug, with the first section of the quote wrapped around it and the last bit on the bottom. So you don’t get the BADABOOM impact of the quote until I take a drink. Marvellous.

10. “Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all.”
Vincent van Gogh

Some crazy beautiful artwork is the only way to go with this. I looove van Gogh so yup, somebody whip me up a huge, amazing art piece with this quote written in it and I’ll be happy.

What’s your favourite quote?

Happy Reading

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your losses. =/

This was a really unique way to approach the theme, and I’ve heard of some of these quotes, but there were some new (and good) ones. I love that John Campbell, Jr. quote. I also totally want that James Thurber quote on a mug. Someone should make it happen.

  2. Oh no!!! I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your cat AND your Grandmother so close together. I will be thinking about you during this difficult time.

I really enjoyed your spin on this! If I had to pick a favorite, it would hands down be the Benjamin Franklin quote! Even though I am not a writer, I still find it super motivating… Maybe I can print it out and stick it next to my computer to give me a little blogging motivation.
