Welcome one and all to a fabulously exciting day of UNBOXING. I’ve been getting The YA Chronicles box for yonks now and they’re such a lovely company. Sure, there have been ups and downs but this month, oooh *rubs hands together*, this month was good. I was absolutely devastated that I didn’t get last month’s box (and for the very valid reason that I wasn’t in the country) because it looked spectacular! But onwards – let’s move on and see what was in the box.
The YA Chronicles are an Australian subscription box company who release one box per month. In these boxes are several items: one new YA (young adult) release and a handful of other relatively AWESOME items. They’re such a lovely company and always doing their best to please!
A Quick Overview
Theme:
Professional Book Lover
As I said, I am really pleased with everything that came in the box. I can’t wait to use it all and I’m super duper intrigued about the book. I feel like they’ve upped their game so let’s hope September’s box is as exciting as this month’s was!
The Book
Words in Deep Blue
by Cath Crowley
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Author: Cath Crowley
Published: August 2016
Publisher: Pan Australia
Pages: 352 {paperback}
This is a love story.
It’s the story of Howling Books, where readers write letters to strangers, to lovers, to poets.
It’s the story of Henry Jones and Rachel Sweetie. They were best friends once, before Rachel moved to the sea.
Now, she’s back, working at the bookstore, grieving for her brother Cal and looking for the future in the books people love, and the words they leave behind.
I had not heard of this book at all prior to opening this box. Which has actually got me thinking that I must be slipping on my release game because this keeps happening. I feel like there are a bunch of books coming out in these last few months of the year that I’m blissfully ignorant about – WHICH IS NOT GOOD. I disappoint myself.
Anyway. This sounds super interesting – I’m always up for a book about books in some way or other. I’m not 100% what to expect from it but I love the cover (it is just me, or does that bird look like it’s flying off the page?). I really need to kick myself into shape though because I haven’t read quite a few of the books that have come in these last few boxes yet which, again, is terrible and I really want to pick this one up!
The Most Glorious Scarf
I don’t think you understand just how excited I am about this scarf. I love it. I’ve been wanting to get some sort of clothing (I was thinking socks) that had this library card design on them FOR SO LONG – and then poof! Magic! I have a ridiculously awesome scarf instead. I may have squealed a bit when I opened this up.
A Reading Light
I was equally thrilled about finding this! I do have a reading light but I have one that really quite heavy and all up does a better impression of a proper torch than a reading light. But this one is light and magnificent and the light it gives off is as good as Lumos.
A Bookmark
Then there was this bookmark, which, if I’m being honest, I did not know what it was referencing. In fact, even after rifling through Goodreads I’m still not quite sure what books this is – if you know, let me know in the comments below!
Handmade Soap
I’m a big soap fan. I looove my soap. So I was thrilled to pieces to see that there was a handmade soap item included in this month’s box. It smells delicious – paper, wood and latte (or something along those lines) and just YES. Soap is good.
// BEHIND THE PAGES //
And that’s a wrap! I can’t wait to get into my new soap and fashionably swish my new scarf around. Maybe I’ll even shine my new reading light in people’s eyes for fun, who knows?!
September’s theme is:
You Win or You Die
Yes, I’m pretty excited to see what’s in this box, too.
Awesome! Love that scarf!

Oh yes shining lights in people’s eyes is always a great use for little mini lamps/torches/anything really. Life is to short not to be super annoying to people at times. *nods sagely* Also I looove Cath Crowley and I’ve had my eye on that book for a while! 😍 I NEED TO READ IT ASAP. Because isn’t it about books?! Books about books ARE THE BEST. *shrieks*

I swear I’ve never actually heard of Crowley before but you’re making me feel like I just said I haven’t heard of the bible. I must fix this.
