*Neverland war cry* GUESS WHAT, GUYS? It’s Tuesday!! Even more exciting, though, is that when I woke up this morning my first thought was that this time next week . . . I’ll be going to the UK! Gosh it’s really come around quite quickly. As a quick note to anyone who’s missed it – I will continue to blog whilst I’m away so fear not, there’ll be plenty of time to be jealous of me whilst I mention which amazing thing I did on which day. *evil laughter*

 Top Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year 

I’m so excited for this week’s topic! OKAY so I must confess I’ve only read like 5 2016 releases (I really don’t understand how that happened either) which means I’m going to do 5 favourites for 2016, and then just my general favourites that I read in 2016. This is probably going to be a few more than 10, but shhh, it’s fine. I’ve got a small bundle of new releases to read but clearly I have difficulties keeping on top of my TBR.

LET’S HOPE I get on top of it because holy lamppost, this year has been such a cracker for books, amiright? I dare say that I shall positively drown in the books yet to come out because it seems there are approximately 734 books coming in in September alone! *excited running man dance of happiness* So let’s start counting!

The Rose and the Dagger
by Renée Ahdieh

This was the sequel to The Wrath and the Dawn, and it was just perfect. This is such a clever and fun retelling of 1001 Nights and if you haven’t read it yet then I highly recommend that you do. This is definitely one of my favourite series out there right now because I can’t really think of much that I don’t like about it. It’s a perfect story with a perfect ending and some of the best characters ever.

Iron to Iron
by Ryan Graudin

This is a novella within the Wolf by Wolf series and oh wow, it was brilliant. It came out earlier this year and the second book, Blood for Blood, is coming out later this year. This was one of the best novellas that I’ve ever read. It’s a solid 100 pages and brings so much to the overall story. If you’re reading the series then you really should read this too.

The Shadow Queen
by C. J. Redwine

I am such a Redwine fan and I cannot express enough how excited I was when I found out this was going to be a thing. I adored this book and thought it was a brilliant retelling of Snow White. I loved all the fantasy elements in it and I really liked all the characters. I can’t wait to continue the series because each book is its own story that focusses on different fairy tales. I CAN’T WAIT.

 A Court of Mist and Fury
by Sarah J. Maas

Okay, so I haven’t actually finished reading this one yet, but I’ve already decided that it’s going to be one of my favourites. I don’t know what it is about Maas but she’s such a brilliant author. I am loving this to pieces and desperately don’t want it to end. It’s going to be a long break once I finish this until Empire of Storms comes out, *wails*.

The Neverland Wars
by Audrey Greathouse

Um, so, can everyone please go and read this!? This was AMAZING. I loved this retelling of Peter Pan – in fact, I think I actually preferred this story to the original. In this version Peter is a teenager because all of his travels to and from reality have started to catch up on him. I just adored this story so much – it’s a great lot of fun and absolutely a must-read for Peter Pan fans.

Me Before You
by Jojo Moyes

How can one not love this story?? This book is so amazing. I saw the movie the other day and it was also really good but it definitely paled in comparison to the book. There are so many rich elements to this story that will break your heart as Lou tries to look after Will. Argh. This is definitely a book I could never get sick of reading.

The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak

Because HELLO?! Have you read this?!? You definitely should have. Zusak is clearly a writing god in disguise because holy guacamole this book was fantastic. Despite the serious tones and issues in this book, it still managed to be really funny and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Obviously I need to go and read absolutely everything else that he’s written now.

 Fangirl
by Rainbow Rowell

This book was so beautiful I can’t even. Cath is a hilarious character and I really need to find myself a Levi. I loved Simon and Baz and I can’t wait until the day that  I pick up Carry On. I seriously cannot believe that I hadn’t read Rowell before this point. RIDICULOUS. She’s amazing.

The Vanishing Throne
by Elizabeth May

This was such a solid sequel to The Falconer. The first book, I thought, was really unique being a steampunk-like setting in Edinburgh with a girl who hunts rogue fae at night with a mysterious fae boy. AND THIS BOOK BLEW MY MIND. I adored it and I desperately need the third book but there isn’t even a release date *collapses* This was such a cruel cliff-hanger.

 Wards of Faerie
by Terry Brooks

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. I’d had this on my shelf for such a long time and I finally picked it up . . . and then picked my jaw up. This series is soo my thing. It’s super high fantasy and all ties in with The Shannara Chronicles. If you’re a lover of fantasy then I can’t recommend this book enough.

Red Queen
by Victoria Aveyard

Unlike the rest of the world, I really, really liked this book. Perhaps it’s because I just hadn’t read any other dystopian like it (there are a few, Pawn by Amiée Carter, for example) but I love the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the magic system that went along with this and I liked most of the characters. It was full of tricky and nasty plot twists so I’m super eager to pick up book two!

A Thousand Pieces of You
by Claudia Gray

This was fantastic. Time travel/dimensional travel? OH YES. This is basically what happens when you take Doctor Who and put it into YA book form. I loved this so much and really enjoyed everything that went on. The characters were fun, the plot twists were painful, and the adventures were to die for. I have the second book sitting on my shelf just begging me to read it . . . . .  soon . . . . . .

Die For Me
by Amy Plum

I discovered Plum this year and have since read a butt-tonne of her books. The Die For Me trilogy has so far super impressed me. I’ve just got the last book to go but I’m so anxious about how it’s going to end I haven’t been able to convince myself to pick it up yet. It’s absolutely magnificent, set in beautiful Paris, and the characters are funny. Plus the concept of the “revenants” is really cool (and you’ll have to read it to find out what that is).

Falling Kingdoms
by Morgan Rhodes

*high fives self* I’m so proud that I managed to squeeze this book in – everyone and his pet has read this it would seem and I don’t feel quite so left out having at least read the first book. I do have the second one to continue on but I just have SO MANY BOOKS, so I’ll get there next year soon, I promise. This is a fantastically fun fantasy series with a plethora of characters and many nefarious plots.

Wolf by Wolf
by Ryan Graudin

And finally! Wolf by Wolf because this book was incredible. If ever a book was written for me, this would be it. It’s alternate historical fiction that explores a world where Hitler won WWII and our main character partakes in a motorbike race because the winner gets to meet Hitler (and that’s a wonderful assassination opportunity). So OF COURSE I loved this. The sequel cannot come out fast enough for my liking!
