Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. It’s a tremendously fun thing to be because you have an excuse to gallivant through the 2016 releases (and probably buy far too many books). It’s also fantastic fun to head over to the official page and check out the link up to what everyone else is waiting on!
This week I’m waiting on . . .

In a world where disease has been eliminated, the only way to die is to be randomly killed (“gleaned”) by professional reapers (“scythes”). Citra and Rowan are teenagers who have been selected to be scythe’s apprentices, and—despite wanting nothing to do with the vocation—they must learn the art of killing and come to understand the necessity of what they do.
Only one of them will be chosen as a scythe’s apprentice. And when it becomes clear that the winning apprentice’s first task will be to glean the loser, Citra and Rowan are pitted against one another in a fight for their lives.
This book has me very excited. Unlike the rest of the world, I’ve never read Shusterman before – in fact I was about to say I don’t even know what other books he’s done, but that’s a lie, I do know his books I just didn’t realise it was him. But this book sounds absolutely FABULOUS. I swear I keep stumbling upon wicked sounding books that have something to do with a grim reaper lately – it must be the in thing for 2016.
Can we take a second to appreciate how beautiful this cover is. The colour scheme is beyond on point – just look at it! I love how not creepy it is? Like the colours are a bit too happy to actually scare me. BUT – I don’t think this is intended to be at all creepy or scary (not really?).
I mean, it’s about a world where you can’t die. Like hand me some popcorn, I AM READY. And any book that involves someone training to become a reaper, just, ARGH, this sounds too amazing. (and there’s also a character called Rowan so I’m so done and so ready for this).
