Read-Your-Bookshelf-a-Thon (RYBSAT) #8

GUYS. RYBSAT round 8 is here!! I’m so excited I cannot even begin to explain. This has to be the highlight of my book read-a-thon adventures that I do. Don’t know what RYBSAT (read-your-bookshelf-a-thon) is? Ooh, boy – I am about to change your life.

RYBSAT is a read-a-thon hosted by Miranda @ BooKss101 on YouTube. It’s a ridiculously fun event that largely takes place on Twitter. The aim is to pick a point on your bookshelf and read all the consecutive books – as many as you can within the week! If you get to a series you can either read the whole thing or just the first one before moving on. It’s a great way to get a chunk of your bookshelf done and the sprints on Twitter are super fun.

Round 8’s Dates Are:

1st – 8th May

And I don’t think ‘ready’ is a good enough word to sum up my excitement.

 The TBR

This round I’m picking four books! Which is definitely ambitious. For round 7 I did pick four and managed to read four (I know, I impressed myself too) but seeing as I’ll be doing round 8 during uni I do not expect to get through all these books. But what’s a read-a-thon if you don’t set a huge TBR, right?

The books that I’ve chosen are books that I’ve wanted to read for yonks so hallelujah – I’m finally there. They’re all YA and mostly fantasy/sci-fi. Two include dragons – which makes me one very happy reader.

  1. Talon by Julie Kagawa
  2. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
  3. Across the Universe by Beth Revis
  4. Seeker by Arwen

Talon by Julie Kagawa

The first book that I’ll be reading is Talon. This was a birthday present for me last year and I’m so keen to dive into it. This is one of those strange situations when you’re very excited for a book but then don’t read it once you get it. All you need to know about this book is that dragons are a large part of it and Kagawa wrote it. That should be enough to have you running to the bookstore. And it’s the first one I’m reading – how exciting!

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

Oh look at that, MORE DRAGONS. Life doesn’t get any better than realising that you have a section on your bookshelf filled with dragons. It really doesn’t. This book is beyond beautiful, I just like to stare at it. It also has a very nice sounding premise:

Rachel Hartman introduces mathematical dragons in an alternative-medieval world to fantasy and science-fiction readers of all ages.

I have literally no ideas what that means but I’M IN. I’m pretty sure the book has less to do about maths and more to do about dragons being ridiculously awesome and breathing fire on stuff. Let’s be real.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

This cover has tortured my poor mind to no end. Was it just me, or did someone else think this was an oddly shaped white blob on a black background too? Because that’s all I saw for about a year and then I suddenly when GEEEEZ *jumps out of chair* because it’s two faces. Talk about a heart attack. I can’t wait to read this one because Revis is releasing a spectacular-sounding book this year and I told myself I wouldn’t buy it until I’d tried the book of hers that I actually own. This is a sci-fi novel, if you couldn’t tell, and there’s space, romance, and adventure – who cares about the rest!

Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton

I remember when I bought this one I had absolutely no reason to other that I liked the cover. I’m not sure I actually read the blurb – knowing me, probably not. But basically, there’s a character called Quin who is a girl, not a boy, and she sounds like she’s going to do some badass things. To be fair, the blurb *is* quite vague. All the more reason to be excited about reading this one!

Expectations

I’m expecting that I’ll read 2.5 books out of this lot. I shouldn’t have too much study to do during this week but that’ll still be heaps so whilst I can pretend that I’m superhuman, the depressing truth is that I’m only a Timelord. HAH. I wish.

If you want to follow along with my progress then follow me on Twitter (@ozbooksnail) and be sure to check out the RYBSAT Twitter page too! I’ll be posting a wrap up at the end of the read-a-thon as well to let you know how I went. Eeep!

Are you participating in RYBSAT #8?

What’s your TBR?
