Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we get to make exciting lists of ten bookish things! And yes, it is just as exciting as it sounds. Anyone can join in so make sure you head over and check it out as well as the link ups to everyone else’s lists!
This week’s topic is:
Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2016
What a great list to make for today! There’s so many amazing books coming out next year (especially in February, keep an eye out then) and I’m super excited for all of them! These aren’t in any particular order. So, without further ado, let’s start counting, shall we?
Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor
Book #1 in the Into the Dim series
Release Date: 1st March 2016
“When fragile, sixteen-year-old Hope Walton loses her mom to an earthquake overseas, her secluded world crumbles. Agreeing to spend the summer in Scotland, Hope discovers that her mother was more than a brilliant academic, but also a member of a secret society of time travelers.”
This book was a solid ‘meh’ until it mentioned time travel. I highly suggest you click on the Goodreads link to read the rest of the summary – it just gets exponentially awesome. This was actually only a recent discovery for me, I haven’t heard anyone talk about it yet, but: time travel [tick], history [tick], pretty cover [tick]. What more can a girl want?
The Inquisition by Taran Matharu
Book #2 in the Summoner series
Release Date: 10th May 2016
“More demons, epic battles, and fights to the death: introducing the unmissable next installment in the Summoner Trilogy…”
Okay so that’s not the summary but it’s the second book in the series so I’m protecting you from spoilers, okay? This is a MAGNIFICENT series that I haven’t seen spoken about much on blogs/YouTube. THIS is the link to the first book (The Novice) – I highly recommend you check it out if you like magic and fantasy. Besides, look at that cover.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Book #2 in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series
Release Date: 3rd May 2016
SARAH J. MAAS. SARAH J. MAAS. SARAH J. MAAS.
This is the second book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series (really, Sarah, you could’ve named the series “Courts”, or, “Sexy Men”, something shorter like that). Thank god this one works as an acronym, ‘ACOMAF’, I mean, it sounds lame, but good work Sarah. This series is amazing, written by the Maas-inator, and who cares about the rest, I’ve already pre-ordered it.
The downside is that we still have no cover. I’m 99% sure this is because Maas enjoys torturing us.
Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman
Standalone (or no sequel announced yet)
Release Date: 9th February 2016
“Blackbeard the pirate was known for striking fear in the hearts of the bravest of sailors. But once he was just a young man who dreamed of leaving his rigid life behind to chase adventure in faraway lands.”
So this is a book about not just Pirates, but Blackbeard. A young Blackbeard, doing blackbeard-y stuff. And wearing pirates clothes (maybe). Need I say more? *add to cart*.
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton
Book #1 in the Rebel of the Sands series
Release date: 8th March 2016
“She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.
Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic.”
Did you read it? Did ya? This sounds like it has kick-ass-girl-awesomeness written all over it and well seasoned in magical fun. Bonus points for the drool-worthy cover (I don’t even care if it turns out bad, it looks magnificent).
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Book #1 in the Passenger series
Release Date: 5th January 2016
“In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home.”
I’m sure you’ve heard of this one by now (if not, hurry up and check it out already). It sounds like a fantastic mish-mash of everything you love in a YA book – aaand the protagonist is a violinist, immediate Kirstie points there. THIS IS ALSO COMING OUT REALLY SOON GUYS.
Riders by Veronica Rossi
Book #1 in the Riders series
Release Date: 16th February 2016
“For eighteen-year-old Gideon Blake, nothing but death can keep him from achieving his goal of becoming a U.S. Army Ranger. As it turns out, it does.”
Horsemen. Of the Apocalypse. GUYS. (Also, Veronica Rossi).
The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
Book #1 in The Crown’s Game series
Release Date: May 17th 2016
“Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.”
I’m really excited for this one for one main (and probably obvious) reason: it’s set in Russia. I love Russian history and therefore am a complete sucker for any book that even hints at a Russian-esque setting. There’s also magic involved. Don’t deny it, you’re checking this one out now. (Pssst, did you see the cover?).
This is also comes out 10 days before my birthday, just saying.
The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine
Book #1 in the Ravenspire series
Release Date: 16th February 2016
“Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father.”
I’m am extremely excited for the release of this book (aside from ACOMAF this is the only other book on this list I’ve actually pre-ordered). I’m a big fan of Redwine’s Defiance trilogy so I leaped at the opportunity to read more of her work. It’s also a fairy-tale retelling, so you know, INSTANT BUY.
Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers
Book #1 in the Assassin’s Heart series
Release Date: 2nd February 2016
“In the kingdom of Lovero, nine rival Families of assassins lawfully kill people for a price. “
I featured this book on my Waiting on Wednesday post from a couple of weeks ago (which you can see HERE). Mostly my reasoning for this one has everything to do with the word ‘assassins’ in the title. Don’t give me that look.
And now it’s time for the honourable mentions (or, in other words, I couldn’t just pick ten. Pah).
