The Autumn Book Tag

I’m a little late jumping onto this wagon seeing as we’re exactly four days away from it being winter. BUT IT’S FINE. I feel that I should comment on my feelings about Autumn and so here they are: I quite like Autumn. I mostly just like it because there are crunchy leaves of the floor on which I can stomp to make a satisfying crinkle noise because I am clearly 5 years old and not 20 (because it’s my birthday today!!).

Thank you to Casey @ adoptabookaus who tagged me to do this one! You should definitely check out her post because there’s an adorable gif of a dog jumping through leaves.

What is your favorite thing about Autumn

I absolutely love the fact that Autumn means it’s getting colder. I’ve always been a fan of winter and when Summer has been an killer and determined to stay in the 40s (Celsius) for a ridiculous length of time I’m just about ready to pack up and move to Antarctica. Of course, cold weather means staying inside more, too, which is fabulous because what does one do when they stay inside? READ of course!

What book reminds you of your school days

Hm. This is a tricky one. I think for this one I’ll have to go with two books: firstly, The Silver Brumby, and secondly, Jane Eyre. I remember reading The Silver Brumby back in primary school and absolutely loving it.
In fact, that was probably one of the first times in my life that I really truly enjoyed a book. Jane Eyre was prescribed reading in high school for me and I
struggled on through it not realising just how big that book is (I was reading it on an e-reader). But I loved the story and those late nights of smashing through it (I’d left it to the last minute) have forever stuck themselves in my memory whenever I think of Jane Eyre.

What cover reminds you of Autumn?

I want to say Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. Mostly because of the covers. Although the beautiful hardback edition of The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss also has that theme going for it, this edition has got to be one of my favourite book covers.

What is your Favorite horror or Halloween book?

img_2060

This question literally just floored me for like five minutes because I couldn’t work out for the life of me what Halloween had to do with autumn, #SouthernHemisphereStruggles. But I shall answer anyway. The original question was actually ‘film’ but I do not watch horror films *shakes head vigorously*. My favourite spooky read is Frankenstein my Mary Shelley! I love to have a nosey through that at Halloween time.

What Fall release are you looking forward to?

Ahem. Well, seeing as I was late to this party let’s take a look at the books that came out in “fall” (I never call it that – I call it THREE MONTHS OF CRUNCHY LEAVES). So! My books are A Court of Mist and Fury by the Maasinator (for obvious reasons), The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh, and The Neverland Wars by Audrey Greathouse! So far, I’ve read only The Rose and the Dagger which I loved even though it tore me to pieces and I’m eager to pick up the next two – I shall, as soon as uni permits.

What Autumn movie release are you looking forward to?

Alice Through the Looking Glass! This one has just been released actually and I’m really excited to get out and watch it. I absolutely love how crazy this adaptation is – and if you know me I’m the biggest sucker when it comes to Alice in Wonderland retellings. Tim Burton is the best person to have done this one!

What are 3 books do you plan to read this Autumn?

So, hypothetically, if I were able to read another three books before the season is up (it won’t happen) I would read:

  1. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes: I’m currently reading this one and ARGH it’s amazing.
  2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: I would like to read this one but I’m not going to read it until all my uni assignments are handed in because I just know I won’t be able to put it down.
  3. Ruined by Amy Tintera: because this is a new release and sounds fabulous!

My Tags

I’m actually not going to tag anyone because Autumn is all done! If you want to have a crack at this tag then please do – of if you want to do it and alter some questions then fire away!

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! I hope you get lots of books and have a fantastic day!
I loved the hashtag #southernhemispherestruggles to true!

Your copy of Frankenstein is beyond gorgeous and yes to crunchy leaves. I loved Me Before You! Definitely one of my favorites this year I can’t wait to see the movie! Also agreed that you should hold off on ACOMAF until all your work is done I couldn’t put that book down and loved it.
I love too many books 😀

    1. Thank you!! 😄😄 can’t wait to open my prezzies!

I know right? I think we need to make that hashtag a thing. Omg I love all those editions – they’re the Barnes & Nobles ones which Dymocks sell. I’m thinking next I’ll either get Dracula or 1000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I’m so nearly done reading it now and I’m getting so anxious!! Really don’t know how it’s going to end *gets tissues ready*

Sarah J Maas’ books are always far too addictive for their own good!!

  2. Silver crumbly? With all the horse books in me life, I have never heard of this. I might have to look it up even though I am long past primary school. Apparently there is a centenary edition according to Goodreads. Interesting . . .

    1. Yes! I can barely remember the story now it was the first horse book I’ve read where it’s from the horse’s perspective and I just remember loving it now. I’ve no idea what it would be like if I reread it though haha If you liked Black Beauty then I think you’d probably enjoy this one too!

  3. I’d really like to re-read Frankenstein. I remember reading it when I was in High School, which was… 6 years ago. :0 All I remember is absolutely loathing the characters, but I was completely appreciative of Shelley’s ability to create such emotion for readers.

Bytheway, I thoroughly enjoy that you’re doing an Autumn tag now. 😛

    1. It’s Spring for us! And thank you 🙂 I have no idea what beggars night is? But Halloween is barely celebrated – nothing like the US. It’s mostly acknowledge and you might put at sweets but that’s probably it.

      1. Beggars night is when kids dress up in costumes and go door to door in their neighborhood. The neighbors hand out candy to the kids. It’s also called going “trick-or-treating”.

  4. Happy Birthday 🎉🎉!!! I hope you had a fabulous day ♥!!!

I was tagged to do this a while ago and I was like “oh I have plenty of time” and then I realised Autumn is over in like 3 days and was like #oops lmao.

I really want to see the new Alice movie! I loved the first one so much. I haven’t read Frankenstein (yet), but that edition you have is super pretty 😍 Also, I feel you on wanting to move to Antartica lmao. The town I’m from had the hottest temp for that day in the entire world (almost 48) within the same week. I honestly do not know how I survived.

    1. Thank you!! And omg I feel for you – the hottest I’ve been in was 44 and just bleh, ridiculous. I start (irrationally) panicking that my blood will begin to boil if I go outside ahaha
