6 Queer Books on My TBR I Can’t WAIT to Read

If there’s something I love more than romance in fiction, it’s queer romance. Many of my favourite couples fall into the queer category so there’s got to be something to that! And I’m forever excited about eventually getting around to these books on my TBR, so I thought we could take a look at six of them today!

I certainly have my favourite authors like Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, but there is so much out there it’s almost impossible to just pick six! And today I want to focus on some fantasy novels repping queer characters.

Infinity Son | Adam Silvera

Balancing epic and intensely personal stakes, bestselling author Adam Silvera’s Infinity Son is a gritty, fast-paced adventure about two brothers caught up in a magical war generations in the making.

I’ve heard a slew of bad reviews for this, and yet I am still super hyped to read this. I’m going in with low expectations, so maybe that will work in my favour. But I just love the cover and I think this sounds really interesting – so maybe I’ll fall into that smaller percentage of people who really like this. We will see!

key points | MM romance | Two brothers | New York | Magical conflict

Unbroken | C. L. Clark

Touraine is a soldier. Luca needs a turncoat. Through assassinations and massacres, in bedrooms and war rooms, Touraine and Luca will haggle over the price of a nation. But some things aren’t for sale.

I seriously cannot wait for the day when I get around to picking this up. There’s just something about this that has me so excited and just LOOK at that eye-catching cover. I haven’t heard an abundance about this, but what I have heard has been good.

key points | FF romance | Assassins | Turncoats | Dethroning kings

Fire with Fire | Destiny Soria

Dani and Eden Rivera were both born to kill dragons, but the sisters couldn’t be more different. For Dani, dragon slaying takes a back seat to normal high school life, while Eden prioritizes training above everything else. Yet they both agree on one thing: it’s kill or be killed where dragons are concerned.

This book has been recommended to me over and over again with everyone saying it’s amazing. So clearly I need to hurry up and get to it. I find the cover so intriguing and I can’t wait to dive in and see what all the fuss is about. Given that I’m such a sucker for books with dragons in it, I’m impressed I haven’t deviated from a TBR to get to this one sooner.

key points | FF romance | Dragon slaying | Sibling loyalty | Magic

Anything But Fine | Tobias Madden

Luca is ready to audition for the Australian Ballet School. All it takes to crush his dreams is one missed step . . . and a broken foot. Jordan is the gorgeous rowing star and school captain of Luca’s new school. Everyone says he’s straight – but Luca’s not so sure . . .

Don’t you just love the bright colours on this cover? This one is another with great reviews which is newish to my TBR. This is one contemporary I’m talking about today because I’m genuinely so hyped for it. This is following a male character who wants to audition for the Australian ballet but breaks his foot, and then there’s a new guy at school. It sounds like it’s going to be so sweet.

key points | MM romance | Ballet | School | Uncertain romance

Iron Widow | Xiran Jay Zhao

The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn’t matter that the girls often die from the mental strain.

This is the book I feel everyone has been talking about (but maybe I’ve just seen it a lot on TikTok). Apart from having a super epic cover and some awesome Chinese inspiration, this book is repping polyamory which is something very new to the YA fantasy stage. I cannot wait to find out more.

key points | Polyamorous | Robots | Aliens | Sacrifice

A Marvellous Light | Freya Marske

Red White & Royal Blue meets Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell in debut author Freya Marske’s A Marvellous Light, featuring an Edwardian England full of magic, contracts, and conspiracies.

This is a book that landed in my lap via a subscription box and so was relatively new to me when I acquired it. This has been described (as you read above) as Red, White & Royal Blue meets Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which is honestly the craziest combo I’ve ever heard of. It sounds like it’s going to be a great time of hidden magic and unexpected twists.

key points | MM romance | Hidden magical world | Deadly curse | Deadly secret
