Good day to you one and all. It’s a delightfully rainy day here in Perth despite the fact that we’re supposed to be going into Spring. It would seem Winter has rather enjoyed itself and doesn’t quite want to leave just yet, *sigh* (I mean, Winter is great and all, but I’ve had enough, alright?). It’s also my parent’s 25th Wedding Anniversary today so happy anniversary to them! A quarter of a century sure is a long time.
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. It’s a tremendously fun thing to be because you have an excuse to gallivant through the 2016 releases (and probably buy far too many books). It’s also fantastic fun to head over to the official page and check out the link up to what everyone else is waiting on!
This week I’m waiting on . . .

Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people from other hostile lands. But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire—a dangerous gift for the future queen of a kingdom where magic is forbidden.
Now, Denna must learn the ways of her new home while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses before her coronation—and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine (called Mare), sister of her betrothed.
When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two work together, each discovers there’s more to the other than she thought. Mare is surprised by Denna’s intelligence and bravery, while Denna is drawn to Mare’s independent streak. Soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more.
But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms—and each other.
I honestly just think that this book sounds absolutely wicked. It ticks all the boxes for something sure to be a magnificent adventure that just has everything in it. I’m really intrigued to see how the whole arranged marriage fits into the story line and curious as to how this progresses into this adventure story the blurb hints at. Not to mention this ticks the LGBT box, too (and we all know those are ridiculously amazing when done right *flashback to Carry On*).
Most of all, this sounds like some good ol’ epic fantasy shenanigans, which always tickles my fancy. I mean, political instability and the word “alliance” always promises a hopefully action-packed adventure. Oh! And the cover is gorgeous (and we all know how much of a sucker I am for a good cover). BRING IT ON.
What are you waiting on?
