Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. It’s a tremendously fun thing to be because you have an excuse to gallivant through the 2016 releases (and probably buy far too many books). It’s also fantastic fun to head over to the official page and check out the link up to what everyone else is waiting on!
This week I’m waiting on . . .
Timekeeper by Tara Sim
Book number 1 in the Timekeeper series
Two o’clock was missing.
Genre: Young Adult, Sci-Fi (time travel)
Author: Tara Sim
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Pages: 368 {hardback}
In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time—and a destroyed one can stop it completely.
It’s a truth that seventeen-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork, but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors.
And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems. Danny’s new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: he is the tower’s clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield’s time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden, and means risking everything he’s fought to achieve.
But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target or he’ll not only lose his father, but the boy he loves, forever.

Pretty sure this was always going to be a book that I would automatically going to be interested in because of time travel! Being an avid Doctor Who fan means that I will always and forever stop and look at anything that mentions time and space.
I think this one sounds ridiculously interesting – I mean a world controlled by clocks? FRACTURED TIME? Sign me up for the next war! (did you get that Mulan reference? Did ya?). I feel like this story is going to be like Hugo with the main character being the one doing repairs for the clock/fabric of time. Which makes me very excited because I love the movie of Hugo – or perhaps I just love how adorable and little Asa Butterfield was.
I’m absolutely loving this cover too, it looks sort of steampunk-y so I’m hoping that the book itself with waddle into the steampunk area, and being about clockwork in a Victorian world I don’t think we’re going to have a problem. It’ll be curious to see how this one goes, and I have high expectations, as this is Sim’s debut novel, *crosses fingers enthusiastically*. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be madly in love with this book when it comes out and I will stare at it’s beautiful cover for all of eternity.
What are you waiting on?
I’m also super excited about this one!
