The YA Chronicles Unboxing: May 2016

Oh look at that, MORE BOOKS. Huzzah! Today is the glorious day that I received the May YA Chronicles subscription box and it’s a good one! Even more exciting, it’s my birthday next week so basically this is like an early present to myself and excuse to start celebrating how wonderful I am early.

The YA Chronicles are an Australian subscription box company who release one box per month. In these boxes are several items: one new YA (young adult) release and a handful of other relatively AWESOME items. They’re an amazing service and I’m super pleased with all their book selections so far. Let’s all high five each other for finally having one of these deliciously book boxes in Australia, *shoots jealous eyes at America*.

Pandora’s Box

May’s theme was Summer Daze Driftin’ Away so I readied my contemporary mind gears and bought some ice-cream. Even thought it’s actually (basically) winter in Australia now. OH WELL. There were some seriously cool things in this month’s box and I’m so excited to use them all up. This was a big relief from the last couple of boxes which I was decidedly less impressed with. I can’t wait to see what June brings.

 The Book

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Genre: Contemporary
Author: Morgan Matson
Published: May 2016
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children’s
Pages: 496 {paperback}

This month’s book was The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson! I have to say I had my bets pegged on a different book so I actually (seriously) squealed when I saw that this was the book. I hadn’t planned on reading this for a little bit because there are so many other books out at the moment (I think I’m drowning in new releases) so I’m so glad that this was the book in this box!! Once I finish the book I’m reading I’m going to pick this one up next because it’s the perfect, light read right now as I take down all those pesky essays for uni.

 The Best Candle of Ever

Look at that. It’s beautiful. And I don’t know if you noticed but this is a FAIRY BREAD CANDLE. I can’t breathe, that is too awesome to be true. Fairy bread is just the best thing ever, I mean: bread + butter + sprinkles = heaven. Let’s be real. And now I get to have a candle waft this delicious aroma around my house. Yeeehawww!

Bath Bomb

Does this look fabulous or does this look fabulous?! (It’s a little beaten around the edges from its journey to me, but oh well) I’m so excited to use this *more squealing*. I don’t know what it is about bath bombs but they’re so much fun and so awesome. This one is a grapefruit & lime flavour (but they also sent out seamoss, jasmine, and green tea. I’m really curious to know what seamoss smells like . . .).

 A Bookmark!

This bookmark is so adorable I wanted to take it on a picnic. This same company also provided us with bookmarks in the December box and they were magnificent. There were also ice-cream bookmarks sent out which are probably equally adorable but just look at how happy that sun is. He’s so happy to be holding me page, so happy. I have to say, I used to dislike magnetic bookmarks but they’re definitely growing on me and they don’t fall out. So let’s make a trophy for that win!

So I think it’s safe to say that this month’s box was fabu-tastic and I’m super duper happy. I can’t wait to soak in the bath with my grapefruit & lime bath bomb, smelling fairy bread in the air and chortling at the probable hilarity of The Unexpected Everything.

Next month’s  theme is:

Pride Week

I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am for this one. I’m sure it’s going to be a stunner.

 Missed last month’s box? Take a peek . . .

  1. ((Waving from America)) I’ve seen all kinds of subscription boxes, but I have yet to pull the trigger… Mostly because my husband would flip his shit if he saw any more book orders… However he is at work all day and I could easily intercept the package… Would be really notice a new book amongst the hundreds on my shelves? If only I could figure out how to change the credit card statement 😂

  2. I really have to get on this box. That fairy bread candle is quite possibly one of the best things I have EVER seen and I need it in my life stat. Obviously, I don’t have a subscription to this box but when I saw this month’s theme I thought the book was going to be The Square Root of Summer, so it’s really cool to see that it was The Unexpected Everything. I absolutely LOVE that next month’s theme is Pride Week. I think I’m definitely finally going to take the plunge and sign up!

    1. Omg I was convinced that it was going to be The Square Root of Summer too! Haha

I hope you do sign up because they’re such an awesome company! And yes this candle is quite possibly the coolest thing of my life. I actually signed up for the May Owlcrate box to check that one out too – although that’ll be a one off because the conversion rate of USD to AUD makes me want to wallow in a swamp of chocolate.

      1. Haha, omg! It fit the theme perfectly like even the cover so it’s cool that it was unexpected (no pun intended). Oh man, yeah the conversion and shipping for the US is insane. I wanted to buy one of the bookish candles from that Etsy store and it was like $6 but converted to AUD it was over $30 and I was like no thanks!!! Owl Crate always looks really fun though!

      2. Ugh it’s such a pain right? I just really really wanted to give it a go so I bit the bullet – I shall regret it (not) at a later date *evil laughter*
