I had been recommended this book a lot before picking it up – and rightly so. This was so good! I’m obsessed. I really am looking forward to continuing the series, because things ended on such a cliffhanger 🤯

This is all about witches and how they control their thralls/Heartless – by taking someone’s heart and keeping it in a jar, and thereby turning them into a form of a monster. They still look human, but they have this subconscious telling them to do the witch’s bidding. It’s amazing, it’s grungy, it’s dark, it’s fabulous.

I loved the array of characters in the story and was happily trying to guess the twists and turns throughout. I can’t believe how many things are left up in the air with that twist at the end! So I’m really, really going to need the next book to suss out the intricacies of this narrative.

Zera is your classic sassy heroine, who’s full of snide comments and badassery, but you know there’s something on the inside to love. Meanwhile, Lucien is a sweetheart and I ship it so much. Sara Wolf is definitely teasing us in terms of making us wait to know how that particular duo is going to work out. Given Zera’s objective – to steal the Prince’s heart – it only adds more and more tension to an already fraught situation.

Loved, loved, loved. Also super love the cover! Bring on the sequel – and get this on your TBR if you haven’t already.
