Quick thoughts
I laughed my way through so much of this book. Filled with friendship, fearsome goats and crooked-eye monks, this had everything I needed for a good time.
A new favourite
I’m sliding this book straight onto my shelf of favourites because I loved every page. I was beyond excited to read a new book by Kate DiCamillo (author of The Tale of Despereux) and boy did she deliver.
What world is this I now inhabit, and how shall I live in it?
I loved Beatryce’s character as we journey with her to try and remember who she is and why the king’s men are after her. Edik the monk was such a beautiful soul and he really made the story for me with his devoted friendship to Beatryce.
Jack Dory was obviously another highlight and his little bee that follows him around was super cute. There is a real theme of the characters getting haplessly into trouble time and time again, but defiantly getting back up every time to beat the odds.
Trouble has a very long tail.
Let’s talk about the hardback edition
There is so much effort in the production of this book that we have to take a moment to appreciate it. The font was delightful (keep an eye out for those full stops *heart eyes*) the curlicues around page numbers, the fancy scripted letters at the beginning of chapters – all so stunning!
Not to mention the gorgeous illustrations that captured the story so elegantly and well.
We shall all, in the end, be led to where we belong. We shall all, in the end, find our way home.
Final thoughts
I can’t wait to reread this. I don’t finish many books thinking that, but this tale has really captured my heart and filled me with happiness to read it. Can’t recommend enough!
