Welcome back to Wednesday! I hope the day has been treating you well since you were last here and that you’ve had a least two cups of tea by now (or maybe not if you’ve only just woken up – slow right down in that case). I’ve been looking at footage of the 4th largest cruise liner that’s pulled into Fremantle in Australia – it’s 18 decks!!! Amazing.
Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted @ Pen to Paper where we get to feature a book that’s been on our wishlist for a long time that we want to buy/read! I have a hugely extensive list that I keep updated over on The Book Depository so I’m never short of books that I’m wishing on.
Where do I make my lists? First and foremost I use my “sound good” shelf on Goodreads where I basically keep track of all the books I’ve encountered that tickle my fancy. BUT, The Book Depository has my most concise list of all the books that I so dearly want to throw my money at and look at one my shelf.
This week I’m wishing on . . .
The Neverending Story
by Michael Ende
Genre: Fantasy, Classics, Children’s Fiction
Author: Michael Ende
Published: 1979
Publisher: Dutton Children’s Books
Pages: 396 {hardback}
This epic work of the imagination has captured the hearts of millions of readers worldwide since it was first published more than a decade ago. Its special story within a story is an irresistible invitation for readers to become part of the book itself. And now this modern classic and bibliophile’s dream is available in hardcover again.
The story begins with a lonely boy named Bastian and the strange book that draws him into the beautiful but doomed world of Fantastica. Only a human can save this enchanted place–by giving its ruler, the Childlike Empress, a new name. But the journey to her tower leads through lands of dragons, giants, monsters, and magic–and once Bastian begins his quest, he may never return. As he is drawn deeper into Fantastica, he must find the courage to face unspeakable foes and the mysteries of his own heart.
Readers, too, can travel to the wondrous, unforgettable world of Fantastica if they will just turn the page….
Because if you haven’t read this then why isn’t it on your wishlist? I know that I’ll love this when I eventually get it and read it – it sounds exactly like my sort of thing. Everything about the blurb sounds magical and adventurous and I look forward to finally exploring this story. It also has the word “quest” in the blurb and that totally doesn’t sway me over it at all. Nope. Definitely not.
Plus the author is German. And we all know that the Germans know how to write fairytales like no other.

I happen to have that edition of The Neverending Story. It is lovely. I started reading it with my son a while back, and then we put it down when he went for a visit. Time to pick it back up 🙂
