The long short of it, is that this was not what I expected it to be. I had my eye on this book for a while, expecting a thrilling account of what a trauma cleaner is and how the business works. It's something that I think many of us were curious about, in an almost grotesque way.
I tried so hard to fall in love with this, but after a long battle to get to (nearly) halfway, I had to just admit to myself that it wasn't doing it for me. Which made me sad, because I've really loved some of Chupeco's other books.
I gave this one a real hot go, but I just couldn't click with it. I'm sad that I couldn't get into it, though, because it seems like almost every review is a very enthusiastic 5 stars. But for me, this was dense, hard-going and lacked a plot that truly sucked me in.
I'm devastated to be DNFing a Leigh Bardugo book. But wowweeeee - this was very boring.
Did not finish: I put this one down at 45%
A Dracula retelling that really let me down and missed the mark. DNF at 60%.
I tried, but in the end I was defeated. This bored me to tears!
