【 HOW TO BREAK A DRAGON’S HEART 】
book #8 in the How to Train Your Dragon Series
This is my favourite of the series so far.
Genre: Middle Grade, Fantasy
Author: Cressida Cowell
Published: September 2009
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Pages: 313 (paperback)
It certainly feels like there’s been a change in tone at this stage in the series. Over the last few books, it’s as though Cressida Cowell has aged these up ever so slightly – with nice strong messages sewn seamlessly into the story.
This was super fun and there are really high stakes at play. I’m enjoying how Camicazi is a consistent character in each story at this stage and Hiccup’s quest to find her in this book threw up all sorts of unexpected twists.
We find out a few key pieces of information in this book that has me very intrigued – one is a prophecy and one is a promise. I’m feeling more and more nervous about whether things will turn out alright in the end.
I still can’t get ever how invested I am in these books! Certainly not just for middle readers.

Stranded on the exceptionally dangerous, and possibly haunted, Beach of the Broken Heart, Hiccup must face Ug the Uglithug and complete the Impossible Task–or die trying. Along the way, he’ll have to battle Berserks, dodge Scarers, and save Fishlegs from being fed to the Beast, all while being hunted down by an old enemy with a dark secret about the mysterious Lost Throne. With Toothless by his side, and time to stage his rescue running out, what’s a Hero to do?
