This has rapidly become one of my new-found Sci-fi favs – it feels as if there’s been a real dirth of good YA Sci-fi over the last few years and I’m so glad Sanderson has stepped up to fill that gap.
This picks up about 6 months after the events of book 1 and is quick to throw us back into the action of this embattled world.
I love that we get to explore some ideas bigger than Detritus in this book and follow quite a typical Sci-fi structure of sinking your arms elbow deep into spacey adventures in a second instalment.
I particularly enjoyed meeting new characters that brought new ideas to the book, and how these characters pushed the narrative in exciting directions. I thought Sanderson did a really good job on unobtrusively commenting on ideas of rethinking prejudices and learning to see other’s perspectives. That was very tastefully done.
BUT OH MY GOD THAT CLIFF HANGER. Good luck to any about to start this, and be prepared and have book 3 to hand so you aren’t left in the lurch! I can’t wait to wait out what happens next.
