I was really blown away by how wonderful Kemmerer’s writing in this was – and how strong the female characters are! Lia Mara is a firm favourite of mine and I can’t wait to continue this story and see more of her.

Following on from the events of book one, this picks up the action immediately and we follow Grey and Lia Mara as the two narrators of this book. It was interesting to see how Rhen was dealing with the threat of invasion and how all the lies about Disi had begun really piling up, throwing all the characters one toe into the morally grey arena.

And I think that was my second favourite thing about the book. Aside from it being fast paced and the women able to defend themselves in every way, Kemmerer really challenges the reader to think about what defines good and evil, and whether just because someone else makes a decision you disagree with, does that make them a bad person? And honestly, the ending of the book was just so damn satisfing, with an expected twist!

We get to see more of the kingdom in this book whilst still circling back to familiar terrority and characters. Tycho was a great character brought into the story here (and I’m so excited that he’s going to feature more in Forging Silver Into Stars.
