This was super adorable! This is actually my first time reading a holiday-themed picture book and I was worried it would only be ‘good’ to read about Easter, but this would be a great story to read all year round.
It’s a lovely tale about Wombat going hunting for Easter eggs and meeting new friends. When he mistakes Bilby for Rabbit, they end up becoming friends and going hunting for eggs together. It’s about learning and accepting differences, and finding things in common upon which to build friendship.
The illustrations are bright and happy, the colours just the right tones to capture the warm autumnal feeling of Easter morning when you were a child in Australia. The perfect weather and time before things get wet for winter.
Not to mention the characters are soft-looking and drawn in such a comforting style. My favourite scene was when they all kicked up the dirt with their tales (or feet, in Wombat’s instance). This was all-up delightful and a sweet picture book I definitely recommend.
