The Sunshine Blogger Award

Thank you to Amanda @ Cover2CoverMom and Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews for tagging me to do this (admittedly several months ago now). They both run such great blogs so be sure to head over and check out everything that they have on offer!

Rules for this award

Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
Nominate some wonderful bloggers and write 11 questions for them to answer.

Amanda’s Questions

1) How many books do you own?

This is a tricky one but I’d safe somewhere in the vicinity of 400. Yikes. I’ve read a lot of them . . . most of them . . . half of them? What? I don’t have a book hoarding problem.

2) What is your reading goal this year?  Are you on track to reach it?

My reading goal is 70 books! I’d absolutely love to read more than that this year and I’m roughly 15 books ahead of schedule so I think I might just beat that goal. I love it when I smash through my TBR because it certainly needs to be diminished!

3) What is your favorite book quote?

I don’t know if this is a quote from a book, and no-one is sure if Dr Seuss actually said it, but:

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

4) If you could sit down and have a chat with any author (living or dead), who would it be?

Mary Shelley!! I am definitely obsessed with Frankenstein – I just love the story so much. I’d love to just sit and chat with her and find out everything about her writing experience of the novel. I find it so clever and amazing that she wrote it when she wrote it. Gah.

5) What is the last book that moved you to tears?

Hm, let me see. I’m not the biggest crier in books and I’m currently trying to work out if A Court of Mist and Fury got me – but I don’t think it did. In which case it was probably The Book Thief. And if you’ve read it, you know why.

6) Favorite movie adaptation of a book?

I’m going to cheat here and say The Water DivinerTechnically, the book was written/published at the same time as the film but OH WELL. The movie is absolutely fabulous and maybe it’s because I watched it first but I did think that the movie was actually better than the book. There, I said it.

7) Have you ever attended a meet the author event/book signing?  If so, which author?

YES. YES I HAVE. LOOK AT ME! This year I met both Tamora Pierce and Alison Goodman (and you can read about that here) – they’re both so lovely and nice and omg how exciting. I’ve also met Robin Hobb and she complimented my t-shirt (it was a picture of David Tennant, in fact, when I wore another DT t-shirt Tamora Pierce said she liked it. Moral of the story: wear a shirt with DT on it always).

8) What is the last book that made you laugh out loud?

The last book that had me having a good chuckle was definitely Miranda Hart’s autobiography, Is It Just Me?, and if you love her then you absolutely need to read it. You will laugh until you snort milk out of your nose. Which is sort of gross, maybe don’t drink milk whilst reading it.

9) If you could erase one book from existence, which book would it be?

Well that’s a nasty-pasty question. I’m going to play along and be slightly mean but only because this author is dead so I can’t hurt his feelings. I really did not like Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Bleh. I’ve been told I “clearly didn’t get it” if I didn’t like it but I ain’t reading it again to find out. NO DRAGONS = NO KIRSTIE.

10) If you could recommend one book to a non-reader, which book would it be?

I suppose that does depend on the reader. If they really liked science-y stuff, The Martian by Andy Weir; if they were struggling to get into classics, Longbourn by Jo Baker; if they want to get into YA, Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck or The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins. But to think of any more is far too exhausting so that’s as many as I’m going to suggest.

11) Which bookish blogger do you have the most in common with reading wise?

love reading Cait @ Paper Fury’s blog because I read a lot of similar books to her, but there are so many people with whom I share interests – it’s too hard to choose!

 Lauren’s Questions

1) If you could switch places with your favourite character who would you choose?

Kelsea from Tiger’s Curse because you may or may not be aware of the ridiculously melt-worthy character called Ren. So yes, I would very much so like to tackle mythological challenges with Ren shirtless by my side. Ahem.

2) Do you have any tattoos? Would you get one if you don’t?

Nope. And no. I don’t mind tattoos – on other people that is. But I don’t like how permanent they are. If I see a cool design or something I really like then I’d much rather draw it on a piece of paper and hang it up then get it etched into my skin.

3) What was the last thing you searched on Google?

Arthur Miller’s death date . . . I just had to double check that he had in fact died. That could’ve been awkward otherwise.

4) What’s your most recent 5 star read?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas BECAUSE HAVE YOU EVEN READ THAT? I know it’s huge and scary but oh my goodness gracious me you will not put it down and may have 3550 heart attacks throughout the pages but AH. Maas is going to be the cause of my death, I tell you.

Me, at the end of a Maas book.

5) Can you stop in the middle of a chapter or do you have to get to the end before closing the book?

I absolutely can. In fact, sometimes I go really crazy and just stop in the middle of a sentence. I’ve never had that issue of accidentally reading the entire night – if I did, it was entirely self imposed and probably reckless because then I’m just super tired the next day. It’s a crazy life being a bookworm.

A bookworm’s motto.

6) How is your bookshelf organised?

44% by I’m-not-sure-how-to-colour-coordinate-but-oh-well
6% by and-that-looks-good-like-…-oh-well-never-mind
20% by my-shelf-is-about-to-break-and-you’re-heavy-so-there-you-go
10% by quick-there’s-a-spot
and 20% by why-am-I-making-myself-to-maths-and-dividing-this-up-so-much

7) Give me a random line from the book you’re currently reading.

‘You try, you fail, you try, you fail, but the only true failure is when you stop trying.’

It’s actually from Carrie Hope Fletcher’s All I Know Now and she’s quoting someone else.

8) When is your favourite time of the day to read?

All day! There is no such thing as a favourite time of day – there is only YAY BOOKS 24/7. Obviously. Unless there’s chocolate, of course, chocolate should always prioritise (and maybe dragon riding too?).

9) You get to have a dinner party with 3 people dead or alive, who would you choose?

To tie in nicely here with a previous question: Mary Shelley, J. K. Rowling, and David Tennant. Now THAT would be an interesting dinner party . . .

Shelley: …and then the monster sucked his eyeballs out of his head and-
Rowling: -no, I don’t think so. It would be much more fun for the monster to kill this character because the readers are far more attached to them and that would really break their hearts-
Tennant: . . .*licks teapot* . . .

10) If you could travel back to the past (don’t worry, you’re not going to break anything!) what era would you choose?

I’ve always thought it would be cool to pop back to see the dinosaurs just to see how wrong we’ve probably got them – I bet they’re bright pink with yellow polka dots and float through the air wearing fezzes because why not.

11) Favourite childhood book? (No, you’re not allowed to say Harry Potter😉 )

I’ve always been very fond of The BFG which is quite apt seeing as the movie is out/coming out depending on where you are. But The Silver Brumby was pretty magnificent too.

 My Questions

  1. How many books can you stack on your head, without holding them, before they all fall off?
  2. If you dropped a Harry Potter book AND your phone into a river, which would you save first?
  3. What are your four favourite character’s names?
  4. What book would you buy every different/special edition of?
  5. What’s your favourite classic?
  6. What film do you prefer to the book?
  7. Do you like to imagine actors as characters in your head, or do you invent new faces?
  8. Which character do you think would pull off having a pet hedgehog well?
  9. What’s the best dragon book you’ve read?
  10. Can you read in more than one language? Do you prefer one language over the other? OR, would you like to be able to read in another language?
  11. What’s your favourite fictional aunty?

  1. Yay!
    1) 400 books! That doesn’t sound like a problem, that sounds like pure awesomness 🙂
    2) I wouldn’t be surprised if you read 100+ books this year. I believe in you.
    3) I wouldn’t be surprised if Dr. Suess didn’t say half of what he is quoted for saying lol
    4) Brilliant choice with Mary Shelley! What a pioneer for women authors! Actually, one of our fellow bloggers is rumored to be a descendent of hers, but with the internet, who knows if that is actually true or not…
    5) I really need to read The Martian.

  2. I’M BACK FOR GOOD. *woops* definitely knew I had to sidle round and check up on how everything was going. I love these answers – I actually feel like I’m living for that dinner party roleplay. You’ve definitely got their characters down to a tee!

400 books?! Yikes, I’m jealous. Glad you’re progressing well on your reading target though! Also, big thumbs up from me for anything BFG or Dr Seuss. They’re always a go-to nostalgia!

  3. AHHHH YOU MENTIONED MEEEEE AND NOW I AM FLAILING AND MY DAY IS MAAAADE. *awards self with cake for being awesome* oh wait. I suppose I should be giving you the cake. But oh well. I mean, I ATE IT ALREADY SO THERE’S THAT.
Also I’m still cracking up over your dinner party answers. LICKS TEAPOT. OMG.😂 You’re so wonderfully hilarious.
I’m actually super curious about how many books I own. I MUST COUNT THEM. Except it’s daunting and exhausting and counting how many I’ve read vs unread is kind of a scary prospect. I’ll probably end up feeling very guilty hahahah. (Yeah, I’m gonna do it.)
Also I love your #2 question for your tagees. Because obviously the correct answer is Harry Potter.

    1. Of course I mentioned you!! Anyone that obsessed with cake has to be pretty dang awesome 😉

Yes omg I don’t want to know an exact number of books because it’d take so long to count and then I’d melt into a puddle of nope. But I’m curious to see how many you have!!

The correct answer is always Harry Potter 😂😂

  4. Your answers for all these questions are amazing 😂 I should try and read ACOMAF soon-ish. I’m just very intimidated and a bit hesitant because I didn’t really like ACOTAR. Yes at going back in time to see dinosaurs. Your dinner party scenario was hilarious too. Also, 400 books is AMAZING.

    1. You definitely should read ACOMAF! It’s on a whole other level to ACOTAR so I think you will enjoy it (I hope!). I believe 400 books is closer to a hoarding problem than amazing 😉 ah well!
