The Emoji Book Tag!

This is an awesome idea for a book tag and I’m so excited to be doing it. Firstly, thank you Beth @ Reading Every Night for tagging me!! I’m not sure who originally created this – I think it might’ve been a combination of different people, who knows!

In any case, the idea is to pick 5 emojis and pick one book that is represented by each. Sounds fun, right?

A book with a relationship YOU knew was going to happen, but the characters resisted:

Shahrzad & Khalid from The Wrath & The Dawn (Renée Ahdieh)

The Wrath and the Dawn 2

THIS BOOK. There were so many different characters I could have chosen for this but in the end I’ve decided to go with these two. They tried so hard bless them, but it’s obvious that there’s about 0% chance that they wouldn’t start making eyes at each other at some point. I desperately need the next book because this STABBED my heart and left me to die on a sidewalk whist I await what will happen next.

A book whose ending you DID NOT expect. Nopity nope:

Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo

Ruin and Rising

So maybe you’re thinking this is a slightly odd choice. But it’s not, I promise you. I’m not going to spoil you either, so calm down. I found the ending of this book SHOCKING. In the best way possible. I really, really love this series and I did not (perhaps stupidly) predict the ending of the book. That plot twist, whew. Nor did I expect how sad I would be at the fate of certain characters. I was finishing the book like WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME. *melts into puddle of feels*

A (side) character who was just SO annoying you nearly murdered them with a spork:

Puck from the Iron Fey series (Julie Kagawa)

The Iron King

I mean this in the nicest way possible. Puck was a bitter sweet character in that I really did love him, but wow, pain in the arse. I particularly loved the fourth book when it’s him and Ash adventuring around – excuse me whist MY SOULD IS CRUSHED because this series has too many damn feels running for it. I may be #TeamAsh, but I’m still #PuckForever.

A book that was slow to start but AMAZING once it got going:

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

Assassin's Apprentice

I know several people who just plain old gave up on this book because the world building is somewhat s…l…o….w…. However I loved it. Once this gets going the characters are YES the plot is YES the twists are YES and I’m ready for book two! (Sort of, it’s a little big tbh and I’m scared).

A book that had you hooked from page one:

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

Falling Kingdoms

I have to go with this book because if ever there was a description for ‘can’t put it down’, this is it for me. I read this whole damn thing in a day, *graciously accepts medal*, because it was SO good. The chapters just have you on edge the whole time so you can’t help but need more, more, MORE. Thank goodness I have book two at hand.

  1. I love the emoji’s you chose for this one, the cat face for the character you’d like to stab with a spork is definitely my favourite XD
Also I love Shahrzad and Khalid. I cannot wait for The Rose and the Dagger to be released, I have it on pre-ordr but there’s still so long to wait. I need them to have their happy ending.

  2. I swear, every time someone mentions TWATD my heart does a little dance inside. I LOVE THAT BOOK, and that is totally the emoji I would choose for some parts of it. Mwa ha ha. ❤

Thanks so much for the tag! I love this funny thing so I might end up doing it sooner or later. 🙂
