Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke | book review

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke book review

This was certainly an interesting read, and a great one for provoking some good discussions. It's also a hard one to review while keeping spoiler free, so I'm going to be somewhat vague. Ultimately, this was a gripping read – almost like a mystery – that had you hating the protagonist in a good way, and feeling desperate to understand what is going on. This book really keeps you in the dark, even when you think you might have figured out what's what.

A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle book review

I've decided to start a read through of the Sherlock Holmes books in chronological order - and this was delightful to start at the very beginning of Holmes and Watson's relationship. I loved the way this book began by introducing the circumstances in which the two meet, followed by an excellent mystery of course.

Bear Head by Adrian Tchaikovsky book review

This is turning into a super interesting series, and I'm actually really excited to find out where it goes with book 3. I think I preferred book 2 to the first instalment, though they are really quite different to each other. I found the first book (Dogs of War) to be fascinating and unique, but the structure jumped forward in time rapidly and relentlessly. Whereas this book felt more stable and continuous.

This was very cool and very fun! It was also my first sci-fi book by Adrian Tchaikovsky, and boy oh boy, I am signing up for more.

A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin book review

I'm in two minds on how I feel about the audiobooks for this series – having read book one and then listened to book two, I think I might revert to reading when it comes to book three, but we shall see. The narration slowly grew on me, but even when I was unsure, the epic scale of the plot still wowed me.

This was very unique and I completely adored the concept of the book. I will absolutely be needing the sequel, however, because I'm left feeling like I have more questions than I went in with!

The White Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey book review

This series continues to please and be exciting! I am reading the Valdemar books mostly blind. I have no expectations and so no idea what to expect. It really surprised me that there was a 10-year gap between The Black Gryphon and The White Gryphon, however.

Fire Falling by Elise Kova | book review

Okay, either I've been listening to the audiobook performance for long enough that I'm desensitised or miracles do happen, because this audiobook performance was so much better than for the first book.

Air Awakens by Elise Kova book review

This was fun and more or less everything I expected it to be. I've been wanting to read this series for such a long time and finally managed to get my hands on it in the form of an audiobook.

Blood of the Old Kings by Sung-Il Kim | book review

This was super fun! Even better than expected, and I'm really blown away by the fact that this is translated, it reads as if it were originally written in English. So hats off to the translation work for a start!
