I tried so hard to fall in love with this, but after a long battle to get to (nearly) halfway, I had to just admit to myself that it wasn’t doing it for me. Which made me sad, because I’ve really loved some of Chupeco’s other books.

The concept of this book has long fascinated me, but the plot was honestly really slow. It seemed exciting – in fact, it even seemed action-packed, would you believe. But by halfway, I still wasn’t invested in the characters and felt exasperated that nothing of substance had *actually* happened.

This felt a little bit like reading Dune, except you’re eternally waiting for the penny to drop, and it doesn’t.

There are a lot of good reviews behind this, so I wouldn’t let me put you off trying. All I can say, is that if you’re not vibing at 10%, you’re probably not going to feel any different later on, either.
