Hello friends! I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend and an even lovelier start to your week. I have been doing some frantic reading in the hopes to get in as many books as possible before the month is out but we will see how I do!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is:
Favourite Bookish Quotes
Let’s dive right in today with some fun bookish quotes! Truth be told this was quite the challenge to not just make this a list of quotes from The Book Thief. That book is ridiculously quotable – seriously, go have a look at its quotes on Goodreads and then tell me I’m wrong.
1. A Christmas Carol
“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour”
(Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol)
2. Six of Crows
“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favourite flower, your favourite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won’t matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.”
(Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows)
3. The Wrath and the Dawn
“The worst kind of lie—the kind shrouded in good intentions. The kind cowards use to justify their weakness.”
(Renée Ahdieh, The Wrath and the Dawn)
4. The Book Thief
“A small but noteworthy note. I’ve seen so many young men over the years who think they’re running at other young men. They are not. They are running at me.”
(Markus Zusak, The Book Thief).
This is a quote by death in the book! Just to contextualise!
5. Prince Caspian
“That’s the worst of girls,’ said Edmund to Peter and the Dwarf. ‘They never can carry a map in their heads.’
‘That’s because our heads have something inside them,’ said Lucy.”
(C.S. Lewis, Prince Caspian)
6. The Thirteenth Tale
“Do you know the feeling when you start reading a new book before the membrane of the last one has had time to close behind you? You leave the previous book with ideas and themes—characters even—caught in the fibres of your clothes, and when you open the new book, they are still with you.”
(Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale)
7. The Iron Knight
“Be careful boy. In some tales, the hero gets eaten by the monster after all.”
(Julie Kagawa, The Iron Knight)
8. Queen of Shadows
“Sometimes there won’t be a right choice, just the best of several bad options.”
(Sarah J. Maas, Queen of Shadows)
9. Tiger’s Quest
“You know you are in love when you see the world in her eyes, and her eyes everywhere in the world.”
(Colleen Houck, Tiger’s Quest)
10. Stardust
“Adventures are all very well in their place, but there’s a lot to be said for regular meals and freedom from pain.”
(Neil Gaiman, Stardust)
That’s a wrap!

Brilliant quotes!! I love the six of crows one, it’s such a moving book you could have picked so many haha. I tried this TTT, but ended up turning it into a game guessing which book the quotes were from. See how you get on!! 🙂 https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2020/09/29/top-ten-tuesday-guess-the-books-for-my-favourite-quotes/

You’re the first person this week I’ve seen pull a quote from The Thirteenth Tale—and one of my favorites, too! Such an amazing book. I only read it once in high school, but it’s stuck with me ever since.
