Hello everyone! We have some delightfully wintery weather at the moment which I am absolutely loving because I’m on holiday. And wintery weather is really only super nice when you have nowhere to be. So as I snuggle up by a fire with the rain dancing on the roof, I’m tucking into some excellent reads!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is:
Books That Made You Smile
I found this surprisingly difficult to actually find ten books for, which sounds depressing. But when you read predominantly fantasy, turns out you’re not reading the cheeriest of books all the time. Nonetheless! After scouring through my read pile of books I landed on a few books that made me smile – I’m certainly seeing a theme with a few authors here!
1. Because You’ll Never Meet Me
by Leah Thomas
This book has always held a soft spot in my heart since I’ve read it because it was such a sweet story. It’s about two boys with debilitating disabilities that really effect their day to day lives. One is effectively allergic to electricity and the other was born without eyes. There are so many moments in this book that made me smile.
2. Fangirl
by Rainbow Rowell
Who didn’t just love Fangirl? This is such a sweet story that is every introvert’s dream. I will always vividly remember the moments when the main character runs from the college library to her dorm with her phone at the ready, emergency number prepped, so that she can just hit “call” in case of a random attacker. There are so many silly little moments like that throughout this story that make you smile for their relatability.
3. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda
by Becky Albertalli
Simon is one of the best fictional characters out there that we all love. This story is simply joyful with so many great moments to smile at throughout. I think I’m definitely due a re-read of this soon!
4. Roof Toppers
by Katherine Rundell
Katherine Rundell is my favourite middle grade author and her books always make me smile. There was something so magical about Roof Toppers with a young girl trying to find her biological mother in Paris by running along the roof tops of Paris with some homeless children who are full of life.
5. Trick
by Natalia Jaster
Trick is such an underhyped book that deserves so much more attention. This is such an unusual fantasy story about a jester in a kingdom and an unlikely romance that blossoms. There are many beautiful moments within to make you smile.
6. The Upside of Unrequited
by Becky Albertalli
Of course there wasn’t only going to be one Becky Albertalli on here. I really do love her writing because her stories are so wonderful and make you feel so good in the end. This was brilliant, as expected, and definitely made me smile.
7. Is It Just Me?
by Miranda Hart
If anything is going to make you smile, it’s sure to be a comedian’s memoirs. I love Miranda Hart and this book made me laugh more than probably 90% of all other books I’ve read. She is simply hilarious and also my hero.
8. Good Omens
by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
This was a good laugh at times! Good Omens is such a special little book with so many fun moments in it. There is definitely a lot to chuckle at with the fantastic banter between the two main characters as heaven and hell battle it out.
9. Carry On
by Rainbow Rowell
Oh yes, let’s just fill this list up with Rainbow Rowell books, shall we? If Carry On didn’t fill your heart than I don’t know what will. There are an endless number of beautiful, smile-worthy moments in this story.
10. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
by Mackenzi Lee
THE ULTIMATE FEEL GOOD BOOK. I love Gentleman’s and if you haven’t read it yet then you’re really doing yourself a disservice. There is so much joy in this story and a plethora of hilarious moments. I could reread this until the cows came home.
That’s a wrap!
What book made you smile recently?

Cold, rainy weather sounds SOO nice. Lucky you! It’s hotter than Hades here in Arizona, so I have to hibernate inside. At least I’ve got good books to read 🙂
Happy TTT!
