The YA Chronicles Unboxing || September 2016

You might be wondering why you’re reading “September” when it’s very clearly October. Well alright, don’t get snappy with me. I do know what month it is. Unfortunately, there was a massive, gigantic, titanic, mammoth, galactic delay on September’s edition of The YA Chronicles for reasons completely out of their hands. So after crying myself to sleep for the past few weeks, I leapt for joy when this arrived!

The YA Chronicles are an Australian subscription box company who release one box per month. In these boxes are several items: one new YA (young adult) release and a handful of other relatively AWESOME items. They’re such a lovely company and always doing their best to please!

A Quick Overview

I was so pleased with this box. Recently, I’ve been contemplating putting a stop to purchasing this box each month. Last month was good and there have been other fabulous boxes, but overall I felt like I was more disappointed than excited with each box I was receiving. Thankfully, September’s box was amazing. I love the books that come in these boxes and there was actually a decent amount of stuff to go with it. So after telling myself that I wouldn’t purchase their December box (I’m not getting November because I have a book pre-ordered that could well be in the box) I had recommend the battle with myself over whether to get it or not. THE STRUGGLES ARE REAL.

The Book

Three Dark Crowns
by Kendare Blake

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Author: Kendare Blake
Published: September 2016
Publisher: Macmillan Children’s Books
Pages:  405 {paperback}

Three sisters. One crown. A fight to the death.
In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose . . . it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.
The last queen standing gets the crown.

I did a little huge squeal when I saw that this was the book in the this month’s box. I have been practicing some serious self-discipline lately to stop myself from buying ALL the new releases. And I’m really glad I did because boy oh boy have I been tempted to buy this one. Thankfully, I’ve been hardcore money-saving so I narrowly missed a catastrophe! I cannot wait to read this book.

Soy Candles

Candles are 100% the in thing at the moment. When I saw that there were candles in here I whooped for joy because you seriously can never have enough. These are like little tea lights and it’s a 4-pack inspired after YA queens. So there is Aelin (Throne of Glass), Meira (Snow like Ashes), Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles), and Shazi (The Wrath and the Dawn). I’m sure you can probably hear me fangirling all the way from wherever you are.

Pocket Funko Pop!

I am a Funko Pop addict – although, let’s be fair, I have it under control. I treat myself to buying Pops when I do well in assignments or for other reward-worthy moments. And I’ve been contemplating getting a Jon Snow Pop for agees. I haven’t because I haven’t watched the series, only read it (and only the first one at that) so I’ve been holding off. But now I have an adorable little one that can gaily sit next to my adorable little 11th Doctor.

Art Prints

This one is from Ida Shop Boutique
This one is from Colour Print

I always get really excited when it comes to art prints in subscription boxes. And these are AMAZING. I have so many different, beautiful prints around the house now (much to the dismay of my family) so I shall shortly be running off to buy frames for this to decorates my bookshelves with (because clearly they’re not cluttered enough). SO BEAUTIFUL.

A Cute Ring

Truth be told, I’m not the biggest ring wearer. It’s a lovely little adjustable ring with a gold crown on it and I do really like it . . . However, it’s probably my least favourite item in the box though because from experience I almost never wear novelty rings like this (I actually only wear one ring ever and that a super cool 13th century coin that’s been made into a ring). Nonetheless, a lovely touch!

October’s theme is:

Against All Odds
