You know, there are only so many ways in which you can express how much you love Tuesdays. I think I’m there. I’ve reached that point. You know, this is a funny one. I thought EXCELLENT and rubbed my hands together when I  saw this, but then I promptly seemed to run out of books. So clearly I’m not reading enough and should therefore buy more books. That’s the answer, right?

As it turned out, once I sat down and actually thought about it I do have some goodies to share with you that I’ve either never talked about or don’t talk about much. Brace yourself, I’m about to start throwing recommendations in your face, quick! Quick! Get your pencil ready!

All That I Am by Anna Funder

I read this probably a couple of years ago now and I really enjoyed it. I feel like this is still quite a popular read but it’s certainly only floating around in the background. It’s a ‘heavy’   read in that it deals with quite serious topics but I found it to be quite beautiful and it’s definitely something I want to give a reread. It’s set in various countries during WWII in places that are Nazi occupied, and all the characters are anti-Nazism. All the characters were just very real and tangible, which added so much to the story. If you enjoy historical fiction then this is definitely something you should have a read of.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

This is a book that I read a millennia and a half a go, seriously. The funny thing with this series is that I read this, half of Inkspell, and then spontaneously stopped. For no reason. This series is AMAZING, in fact, Funke was one of the authors that I actually read when I was younger. You see, I used to hate reading (as some of you might know) so I wouldn’t pick up a book because eww books. Little did little me know how little minded I was being. Tsk tsk tsk. ANYWAY. Inkheart was a fantastic and I will hopefully be rereading this and finishing off the series this year, FINALLY.

People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks

I got this as a present for my birthday last year and dived right in because it sounds amazing. Brace yourselves, guys: this is a book about an historian who handles old books/manuscripts, things like that. She’s given this Jewish prayer book that’s been missing for a hundreds of years and has finally resurfaced into the scholarly world. She has the job of finding out where the book has been and does so by examining the things that got caught in the book, such as salt and blood. IT. IS. AMAZING. I have fallen in love with Brooks’ work and have bought almost all of her other books since, it was that good.

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

You’ve probably (maybe?) heard of this book, Hobb *is* a pretty big ‘un out there. She is the mother of fantasy (okay, Rowling is the mother of fantasy but shush) and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s quite heavy on the world building and the pace is quite slow until about 2/3 of the way through, so it’s not for everyone, but I LOVED it.

Wings by Aprilynne Pike

I distinctly remember reading this entire series on the Easter break when I was in high school and my friends and I were doing some hardcore fangirling over it. I loved this series cover to cover, the adventure was awesome, the ideas were new, and it totally propelled me into the world of YA and I’ve never gone back. Faeries for life.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

I bought this edition of Hitchhiker’s just over a year ago now, it’s a bind-up of the first four books and oh wow is it funny. I’ve always loved the movie (how could you not?) and was intrigued to read it. It loved every second of this and I genuinely don’t think books can get much wackier than this. I mean, even Adams’ little intro at the beginning is laugh-your-socks-off funny.

The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks

This is a childhood favourite of mine. In fact, this is probably the first series that I adored. It’s such a cute story about a boy who has a toy Indian (as in Native American) and when he puts this little Indian in a little cupboard, locks it, and then opens it again, he comes to life. I half really want to reread this, and I’m half too scared to in case it’s not the same.

Switched by Amanda Hocking

I’ve always loved Hocking’s work and the Trylle trilogy was the first of hers that I read. I zipped through the whole thing as it was a short, quick and fun read. Loki will forever be one of my favourite fictional characters. This, I definitely need to reread.

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

If you haven’t read this book then PLEASE DO. This is the sweetest story about a horse’s life as he’s passed from owner to owner and the different ways in which he’s treated. I absolutely adored this book and it certainly brought back memories of when I read The Silver Brumby many, many years ago. Now that I think of it, you should read that one too . . . and I need to pick up a copy of it and give that a reread.

Defiance by C.J. Redwine

I know this series isn’t the most popular in the world, but I think that’s because it really needs to be read in its entirety. The second book was incredible but really inconclusive, but the third book. Oh my goodness is was good. I love Redwine’s work (go read The Shadow Queen!!) and she’s become one of my auto-buy authors. Whilst the Defiance trilogy gets slammed as really trope-y quite a lot, I actually found the setting and plot to be reasonably fresh and unique. Although the time setting was somewhat shaky.
