I’m super excited to be participating in this month’s Guest of the Month topic: my favourite holiday tradition. This month’s guest is the very lovely Jocelyn @ 52 Letters in the Alphabet – make sure you check out her blog and say hi!!
The holiday season holds a special place in my heart. I get a break from school, enjoy the magic of Christmas, and celebrate my birthday all within the space of a few weeks. It is nearly impossible for me to pick out one tradition from December that I love more than the rest, but for the sake of this post, I’ll tell you guys about Christmas morning and opening presents with my little sisters
As long as I can remember, “Santa” has wrapped everything that he puts in our stockings. After he drops off all of our presents under the tree, he fills up our stockings with smaller gifts and leaves them in front of our doors. When we wake up in the morning, the first thing any of us see is our stuffed stocking when we open our doors.
It’s a peace offering of sorts. The kids get to expel some of their Christmas morning jitters by opening smaller presents, and the parents can sleep in a little longer.
Samantha (my twin) and I are the oldest, so everyone gathers in our room. We all sit on our bed and open our stockings together. Tissue paper and wrapping paper scraps go everywhere. My little sisters—still at the age when they believe in Santa—squeal about the small toys and art supplies he got for them.
Afterward, we take sneak peaks at the tree, whispering to each other when we find a particularly large present addressed to one of us. By that time, it’s hard to keep everyone quiet, and my little sisters will start badgering our parents to get up so we can open the rest of our gifts.
I love getting to experience my sister’s Christmas joy first thing, when it’s just the four of us together. Before the mess of real presents, before the craziness of Christmas morning, the four of us get a few minutes of quiet, honest joy. The presents each of us get in our stockings will probably be the least interesting ones we receive all day, but the time we spend unwrapping them are some of the most special moments for me.
That’s all for today, guys! Hope you enjoyed it and don’t forget to let me know below if you have any favourite holiday traditions!
Arrivederci tutti and happy reading!
